Summer is synonymous with barbecues, parades and fireworks displays. But along with all the festivities are plenty of visits to emergency rooms – especially around this time of year. Unfortunately, many people do not realize just how dangerous fireworks and sparklers can be-which is a primary reason that injuries occur. In honor of National Fireworks Safety Month, please take some time to familiarize yourself with the following safety suggestions to avoid accidents when using fireworks:
- Never carry fireworks in a pocket because the friction of movement can cause them to light.
- Enjoy fireworks at a public display set up by seasoned professionals.
- Always have water ready if you are shooting fireworks.
- Use fireworks outdoors in a clear area; away from buildings and vehicles.
