What should I know about changing phone service providers?
Answer:
- Add CELL RADIO BACKUPNon-traditional phone lines are far less reliable for alarm communication
- Tell the phone companythat you have a security system
- TEST YOUR SYSTEMTest the system BEFORE and AFTER the phone technician performs his work
Question: Will my alarm system work with a Comcast Digital Voice line?
Answer: Comcast offers dial tone service in the form of Internet phone lines operating over existing cable connections. These lines are not as reliable as analog phone lines. To ensure a secure connection to the monitoring center, we recommend using an analog telephone line, offered through companies such as BellSouth and AT&T. If you have a telephone line through Comcast, secure your monitoring with our cell radio backup. Call our office at 901-755-1800 or CLICK HERE for more information.
Question: How do I know if my alarm system is working?
Answer: Your alarm system automatically sends us a weekly test. The test ensures the system is functioning and communicating properly. Also, your system has built-in self testing to check for wiring troubles, low batteries, etc. The National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association recommends YOU test your alarm system at least monthly.
Question: Can I add a code to my system?
Answer: Most of our systems can have multiple user codes. If you need a temporary code, it is easier to simply temporarily change your keypad code. Refer to "How do I change my keypad code?"
Question: How do I silence the fire alarm?
Answer: On most systems type your code then press ENT.
Question: What is the number of the monitoring center?
Answer: All account holders can now reach the monitoring center at (901) 382-6996.
Question: My keypad readout says PRESS NUMBER 1. What do I do?
Answer: Press the number "1." The keypad should display a fault, such as an open door or window, or a motion detector that has recently detected motion. On keypads with the NXT button, pressing the NXT button works like a down arrow to scroll through the current information, such as faulted zones, on the alarm.
Question: I hear a beeping sound. Is it coming from the alarm?
Answer: The alarm keypad will beep to alert you of a system message. When the keypad beeps, the message will display the status of the system. Please note: there are thousands of electronic devices that make beeping sounds. Some of the most common beeping devices are as follows:
- Battery operated smoke detector
- Battery operated CO detector
- Toys
- Pagers
- Cell phones
- Dishwasher
- Exercise equipment, such as exercise bike & treadmill
- Hearing aide
- TV remote
- Self cleaning oven
- Battery operated alarm clock
- Battery operated kitchen utensil
- Car alarm remote
- Cordless phone
- Digital thermometer
- Uninterrupted power supply (UPS)
- Weather monitor
- Medication reminding device
- Doorbell
Question: My keypad says ALARM SILENCED. What does that mean?
Answer: The ALARM SILENCED message means your system has detected an alarm. The siren may have sounded. The system was either disarmed with the code or automatically reset itself on the timed schedule. Use the NXT button to scroll through the message. After noting the message, if you wish to clear it, enter your keypad code and press the ESC button.
Question: How do I change my keypad code?
Answer: If your system has a COMMAND key with text-display readout, press COMMAND, then "5," then "5." Type your current code, then ENT. Type your new code, then ENT. Type your new code, then ENT again. They keypad should say PASSCODE CHANGED.
If your system has a COMMAND key without text-display readout, decide on a new code that begins with the same first digit as your current code. Press COMMAND, then "5." Type the current code then ENT. Type your new code, then ENT. Type your new code, then ENT again. Test your code by arming the system with your code then ENT.
If your system has a CLEAR button, press the number "5" and follow the system’s prompts. It will tell you to enter your code. It will then ask for the new code.
Question: My system is beeping. How do I stop it?
Answer: Press COMMAND then "4." If your system does not have a COMMAND key, press the number "4." After the beeping stops, refer to your alarm systems users’ instructions for further information.
Question: The telephone company was working on my telephone line. Now, my keypad is beeping and/or says COMM FAIL. What do I do?
Answer: The alarm connection to the telephone line may be disconnected. Have the telephone technician reconnect the alarm; then test the connection.
Question: Do I have to change the batteries in my smoke detectors?
Answer: The smoke detectors attached to the alarm system do not have individual batteries because they are connected to the alarm’s power source at the main control panel.
